Personal Project
2017
“Louis” is an alternative musical instrument designed for street performers. It uses piezoelectric sensors applied to surrounding surfaces, allowing the performer to generate a wide range of sounds through simple actions such as tapping, scraping, or rubbing. By turning everyday surfaces into playable interfaces, Louis enables users to reproduce tones from different instruments and genres and effectively “play” the environment.
Louis encourages instinctive, shared musical experiences. Its use of natural gestures recalls primitive forms of expression, making music accessible even without formal training.
Award:
- ADI design index 2018
- 23^ Targa Rodolfo Bonetto
Credits
Thesis advisor: Claudio Larcher
Actor/musician: Francesco Cotta Ramosino
Videomaker: Tommaso Tagliaferri
Soundtrack: Jamie XXi
